Welcome to my Top 5 Iconic Rock Band front men.
The early 80’s were dominated by mostly male big-haired rock bands.
They made their presence and sounds felt, the scene often dominated by the larger than life front men.
Here are some of my favourites – I hope they are yours too!
Iconic Rock Band front men – some 80’s favourites
Quick links to info on this page:
Bon Scott from AC/DC
Front men don’t come larger and wilder then Bon Scott from AC/DC. Ronald “Bon” Scott was a Scottish-born Australian rock musician, and was the lead singer and lyrics writer of Australian heavy rock band AC/DC. He joined in 1974 and was in the band until his untimely death in 1980 when he choked on his own vomit after a drinking session.
I was lucky enough to see them live in Liverpool UK in 1979, supported by the relatively unknown 16 year olds, Def Leppard!
Jon Bon Jovi
Jon Bon Jovi is the driving force behind Bon Jovi and gave the band its name.
From a start based on the heavy rock style of the early 80’s both he and the band have aged and evolved gracefully over the yars and are about to release their 14th studio album.
Gene Simmons from KISS
Kiss was formed in 1973 with Gene Simmons on bass guitar.
They played catchy hard rock songs and wore outlandish make-up and outfits. Within a few years they were enjoying booming sales and sell-out live tours.
Despite not being a hit with music critics, KISS have sold more than 100 million albums.
Axl Rose from Guns n Roses
Love him or hate him – and there are plenty of both – you can’t deny the effect Axl Rose and Slash had on the music industry of their time.
It didn’t end well but this iconic singer and band produced plenty of tracks that still sound great today.
Who doesn’t tap their feet to Sweet Child o’ Mine?
David Coverdale Deep Purple and Whitesnake
David Coverdale is an English Rock singer best known for his roles in Deep Purple from 1973 to 1976 and Whitesnake, a heavy rock band he founded in 1978.
In 2016 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for his work with Deep Purple.
